Students Get Used to Our COVID-19 Rules

This year at Bishop Foley Catholic High School students and teachers finally arrive back at school, but with new rules and challenges to face. Everyone in the building has to wear a mask, as social distance in the hallways and in classrooms.  While eating lunch in the cafeteria, only 1-3 students are allowed at each lunch table. Surely, it must be difficult for staff and students to interact with each other with these masks covering their mouth and nose, while also maintaining a good 4-6 feet away from each person.

Sometimes change is difficult to adjust to. Some students and teachers say they have a hard time breathing in the masks, others work just fine with it. Some people have a hard time hearing others, when the other person is wearing a mask. You can not see their lip movements, which means you have to understand them only based on hearing. Of course, teachers Mrs. Cleghorn and Mrs. Petty have thought ahead of this complication and are wearing clear masks to which you can see their mouths. “The biggest challenge I’ve faced with COVID is having to talk loud so others can hear me, it’s hard for me as a freshman because we’re all trying to make new friends, so we need to interact better,” stated Nora Hanna, a freshman. This pandemic will have its complications, but the school is hoping later on in the year, to finally take off their masks if the situation gets any better.

The staff and students are working hard on keeping their school environment safe. So far, no one in the school has gotten COVID-19. Everyone hopes it will stay this way. To help prevent super close and crowded hallways, there are two lines marked with blue tape on the left and right. There are arrows pointing which way to walk on either side of the tape. For example, if the left line arrow points up the stairs, you go that way. If the right line arrows point down, you go the other direction. This simple yet clever idea has helped students during passing time in two ways.

Oneway is that it doesn’t allow clumping in the hallways which is very difficult to maneuver around and sometimes makes you late for class. The second reason, if people all crowded in a big group in the middle of the hallway, it would be very difficult to pass through, meaning you might be late for your class. The second important reason is

because you don’t want people to be as near to each other, because of this pandemic going around. Let’s hope Bishop Foley has a great school year!
