80’s, 90’s, & 00’s Movies Are Coming Back

The best decades are officially coming back! The fashion, music, and even the fame of older celebrities in their prime. One of the biggest things that are helping these eras regain fame are the iconic movies made during these decades.

Some movies that have been regaining popularity are Clueless (1995), Scream (1996), Heathers (1988), and the famous Harry Potter series.

During quarantine, many people started to binge-watch these golden timed movies which helped them regain fame. There’s a theory about fashion and pop culture called “nostalgia pendulum.” This means that what’s old is new again every 20 to 30 years. The reason for this is that nostalgia boosts your mood and is associated with homesickness. It reminds you of the past and its’ feel good vibe. That’s why with every new decade, an old one regains fame.

The romantic comedy Clueless, premiered in the summer of 1995, has definitely regained its fame over the past years. The lovable, rich, and socially successful Cher Horowitz (played by Alicia Silverstone) is popular with her friend Dionne (Stacey Dash) at their highschool in Beverly Hills. Seeing herself as a matchmaker, Cher first coaxes two teachers into dating each other. With her success, she decides to give hopelessly klutzy new student Tai (Brittany Murphy) a makeover. What makes this movie easily one of the most iconic ones are the outfits and fashion throughout the movie.

Scream, the iconic horror/mystery slasher film released in 1996, is one of the iconic films directed by Wes Craven (RIP). A year after her mother's death, Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) and her friends started experiencing some strange phone calls. They later learned the calls were coming from a crazed serial killer, in a white faced mask and a large black robe and his phone calls always start with “What’s your favorite scary movie?”

The dark comedy movie that has been turned into a musical, Heathers, has been loved by both Winona Ryder and Christian Slater fans for years. Veronica (Winona Ryder) is part of the most popular clique at her high school, but she disapproves of the other girls' cruel behavior. Veronica and J.D. (Christian Slater) confronts clique leader Heather Chandler (Kim Walker) and accidentally poisons her. Soon Veronica realizes that J.D. is intentionally killing students he does not like. She races to stop J.D. while also clashing with the clique's new leader, Heather Duke (Shannen Doherty).

Lastly, the Harry Potter series and its first one being released in 2001. Adaptation of the first of J.K. Rowling's popular children's novels about Harry Potter, a boy who learns on his eleventh birthday that he is the orphaned son of two powerful wizards and possesses unique magical powers of his own.
