Halloween 2020

By: Andrea Friedel

It’s no surprise that 2020 has been looking a bit different from the past years, but what does that mean for upcoming holidays like Halloween? Halloween is a wonderful time when you dress up and walk from house to house to receive candy. But this year, some decided it would be safer and a relief if Halloween was canceled.

Halloween is no doubt a big day in adults’ and kids’ lives. It puts a fine line between everyday life and brings joy to those who dress up and those who hand out candy. According to Los Angeles Times, Los Angeles County’s Department of Health has already revoked haunted houses and parties. They also recommend not trick or treating because it violates the social distancing codes. Other people like Andrew Cuomo, the Governor of New York are giving trick or treaters the choice, but highly advise you to stick to your neighborhood at most. “I will not ban trick or treaters going door to door,” said Cuomo from abc.ny.com. Other governors following suit or are  instructing mask wearing as predicted.

While Halloween in Michigan is still being determined, you can still attend many of the fall and Halloween events, including a trip to Blake’s Apple Orchard, Scarefest for an eerie night, or pack up and head to Cedar Point for the weekend to partake in some thrilling or seasonal festivities. Halloween with COVID-19 will be looking different this year, but by keeping masks up, washing your hands, and social distancing we might be able to pull off another spooky Halloween safely.
