High School Fall Sports in Michigan

                          Mighigan’s High School Sports

Covid-19 is affecting everyone right now. But how is it affecting High School sports in Michigan? On September 9th, Governor Whitmer clarified that masks must be worn in training, and in competition only when athletes cannot keep a safe distance from each other. Football, soccer, and volleyball are sports where Whitmer says face coverings are a must. But sports such as tennis, golf, cross country, baseball, and softball have been exempted from that rule.

The MHSAA has just recently allowed fall football to take place. Originally, football was going to be postponed until spring, but now things are looking up. Boys soccer is also allowed to take place, along with girls swimming/diving and girls volleyball in certain areas. The spectator limit is 2 per player for indoor and outdoor events as well.

How is Foley handling these rules though? Boys soccer, girls volleyball, cross country, football, girls golf, and girls swimming are currently taking place, while keeping note of the Governor’s orders. Some athletes are finding it pretty hard to play with the mask on though. Freshman volleyball player Alina Prykazka says, “It's been pretty difficult because you're constantly running and you need to breathe and that's hard with the mask.” Hopefully we can contain this virus soon, so high school sports, and just sports in general, can go back to normal.
